Select the Wood
Only quality hardwoods make the cut. Walnut, maple, cherry, and oak chosen for grain, character, and longevity.
I spent my career helping build Salt Life Clothing from the inside out. Marketing, eCommerce, digital strategy, revenue growth. I knew that brand as well as anyone. When Salt Life got acquired and the transition came, I was the last one standing before the keys got handed over. After twelve years, the company moved on. And honestly, that was the best thing that could have happened.
I tried the consulting route. Worked for other companies. Nothing fit. Not because I wasn’t capable, I absolutely was. But I had spent enough time building things for other people, and somewhere in the back of my mind, something kept pulling me toward the shop. Wood doesn’t have a board of directors. A cut made right doesn’t care who bought who. You put in the work and the work shows. That was something I could trust.
Hype Wood Co. became the thing I had always had in me but never had the time to chase. My own LLC, my own hands, my own name on every piece that goes out the door. Hard work pays off. But only when the work is yours.
When we revisited the brand, the logo had to feel timeless. Simple at first glance, but meaningful underneath, just like the work itself. When my wife, Kelly (Sideline Design Co.), showed me the new mark, I knew it was right. The dovetail joints are my favorite detail. They’re subtle, but they say everything about how things come together and why the details matter.
Like the hidden arrow in the FedEx logo, you might not notice it at first, but once you do, it sticks. The “H” became the foundation, showing up everywhere and representing what Hype Wood is built on.
Every piece follows the same standard—not because it’s required, but because Tommy won’t put his name on anything less.
Only quality hardwoods make the cut. Walnut, maple, cherry, and oak chosen for grain, character, and longevity.
Cut, planed, and joined with precision. No rushed steps, no sloppy edges. Every joint is fitted to stay fitted.
Multiple rounds of sanding—rough to silky smooth. It’s tedious. That’s the point. The surface earns its finish.
Food-safe oils and waxes, applied by hand. Then a final inspection. If something isn’t right, it doesn’t leave the shop.
